Best dance party of the summer... Also the windiest wedding I have ever photographed.
I had been anxiously waiting for the wedding of Ryan and Amber because I had such a great time with them at their engagement session in Charleston, South Carolina last year. Their wedding was held at Boatwerks in Holland on a scorching hot day in late September. I don’t think that any couple planning an outdoor, fall wedding plans on it being 95 degrees, but Ryan and Amber didn’t let the heat take away from their very special day. Everyone had a great time – even their dog Brody the Pug who was dressed in a vest and bowtie! As the sun set, it began to cool down and I took the bride and groom out on the boat dock where I had set up some lights and was able to capture one of my favorite pictures of the entire season!
The wedding of Tommy and Darline will go down in the books as one of my favorite weddings ever because it was just so beautiful and unique! The bride and her family are Vietnamese, so the day started with a traditional Vietnamese tea party and ceremony where Darline wore a beautiful, red dress that had more detail than any dress I’ve ever seen - it was absolutely stunning! The next ceremony was a traditional Catholic ceremony and her second dress was just as detailed and beautiful as the first. After the 2 ceremonies we hopped on a party bus to ride around Grand Rapids to capture some photos around the city - I really love the juxtaposition of elegant wedding garb against an urban background. Their reception was at the BOB downtown, and again, I’ve never seen anything like it! The groom is a break-dancer and member of the 61Syx Teknique Street Dance Crew, so I have just as many photos of him on his head as I do on his feet! Their reception was straight out of a music video and I had so much fun dancing the night away with them!
The wedding of Ryan and Lila was held on a Sunday at an all white chapel in Holland, MI followed by a trolley ride to the reception at Boatwerks. I haven’t been to Boatwerks in a few years, and was excited to see that it had been completely remodeled - complete with a new indoor/outdoor venue with Edison lights! This wedding was really fun for me and ran so smoothly for Ryan and Lila because I brought my entire team of 4 out – including DJ Wyatt Hollis for their reception. The team is in constant communication for the entirety of the day and coordinates everything so it runs seamlessly from start to finish. Most importantly though, we have tons of fun working together and bring an energy that can’t be matched! We even got to try out my new “simple booth” where guests can take short, 2 second, candid videos of themselves at the reception. With over 200 pictures taken at the booth, I’d say it was a hit!
